Musical Monday; Ipod shuffle

There are several music question meme thingies floating around. Most have thirty or so questions you'll have to answer about your (least) favourite songs. They're all nice and all, but I still prefer to do it my way.

So, I'll do an Ipod shuffle. Once a week, until I get bored with it, I'll post about a song on my Ipod (uh, phone), why I like it and what it means to me. It's possible that I switch to Dutch now and then because some emotions and memories are best conveyed in my mother tongue. I'm not a music connoisseur, or a know-it-all. I know what I like, and just want to share my taste in what we Dutch would call 'foute muziek'. I'll leave it up to you to figure out what that means. ;)

The first song:

Something's gotten hold of my heart - Gene Pitney & Marc Almond

This is one of my all-time favourites. The whole composition, the harmony of Gene and Marc's voices, the other-worldly, mesmerising sound that begs to be put on repeat for hours on end. Then there is the build-up in the second half, and you know the climax is coming and you just have to grab your mic brush and bellow along, exaggerated arm movements and a pained expression and all. And when I'm not singing (screeching according to G.), I'd like to close my eyes and just listen. In those moments, I feel the butterflies in my stomach again, the blush on my cheeks, and remember how I felt when I first fell in love with G. I remember our first kiss and how it tasted, all the other firsts and seconds and thirds, and that feeling of utter longing on the days we couldn't see each other.

We've been together for 19 years now and I love that man to death, even when he annoys me immensely, and I can't imagine a life without him in it. But this song, this song reminds how it felt to fall in love as opposed to being in love or loving someone.

Romantic, sappy, love, that's what this song means to me.

That's all I wanted to say.
