Teaser: Law 20010101 Has Passed!

An excerpt from a Marriage Law fic I'm still working on (hi Elizabeth). As I couldn't find a way to incorporate this bit in the body of the story, I'm putting it here. The official story will begin approx. 1 year after the scene beneath the cut.

The official release will be somewhere in November? I think, I dunno... it's a slow process.

So, since I'm rubbish in naming my fics, can anyone to help me out here?

After months of deliberating, the Wizengamot has approved the controversial Marriage Law with forty-six against four.

All who refuse to cooperate will have their wands snapped!

Wizarding Marriage Law 20020101
Article 1

  1. All witches and wizards between the ages of eighteen (18) and forty-five (45) who are not married are obliged to register at the Office Of Magical Welfare (OoMW hereafter) within fourteen days’ time after the passing of Wizarding Marriage Law 20020101. Omitting to do so is punishable by stripping of one’s magic and the seizing of their possessions.

  1. All witches and wizards who are betrothed and to be married within six (6) months after the passing of Wizarding Marriage Law 20020101 are excused from the obligation as set in article 1 a.

  1. Excepetion to article 1 a. and 1. b: Betrothals of Pureblood witches to Pureblood wizards have become void at the time of the passing of Wizarding Marriage Law 20020101. Continuing of the betrothal or entering marriage after this point, will be considered illegal and is punishable by stripping of one’s magic and the seizing of their possessions.

  1. All witches and wizards who are physically not able to conceive and/ or carry a child, are excluded from the obligation as set in article 1 a. and 1 c. In such case a full medical report from St Mungo's Hospital for Magical Maladies and Injuries needs to be handed over as evidence to the OoMW within a fortnight of the passing of Law 20020101 or as soon as the infertility is discovered.

  1. Fraudulent use of the exception as set in article 1 d. is punishable by stripping of one’s magic and the seizing of their possessions.

Katie crumpled that morning's Prophet into a ball and tossed into the blazing fire in the hearth. She pressed her lips into a grim line when her eyes fell on the unopened envelope from the Ministry on the mantle. It was too thick to be a merely informative letter. Those arseholes hadn't wasted any time, had they?

"Bastards," she gritted through clenched teeth. The envelope's thickness told her everything she needed to know; the Wizengamot's approval had only been a front. She was already sold and paid for.

Well, she for one refused to play along. How dare the Ministry sell her like a pound of flesh? Just a year ago, she'd fought a war because those idiots had been too dense to accepts Voldemort's return, and this was how they repaid her? Her friends? By marrying her off to an inbred Pureblood? Well, she had only one thing to say to that.

"Over my fucking dead body."

She had grown up Muggle for the first eleven years of her life.

How hard could it be to do it again?
